Drinking green tea is natural, safe and affordable.

Other health foods such as pomegranate may contain as much as or more antioxidants than green tea. But gram for gram and dollar for dollar, none of them packs as much punch as green tea.

Green tea has virtually no calorie if you don't add sugar. It takes 5 minutes to prepare, but it keeps you calm, yet alert, all day.

Advantages of Green Tea

Green tea chemicals are complex. It contains more than 200 bioactive compounds.

The 3 most important constituents are catechins (which include powerful antioxidant EGCG), theanine (which has a relaxing effect) and caffeine (which is stimulating).

According to a comprehensive study by the US Department of Agriculture, regular hot green tea contains the most catechins, and is the healthiest to drink.

It seems that the more green tea has been processed, the more nutrients it loses.

Teabags are made from dusts and fannings. They go through what is called a roto-machine that slices and dices the leaves into tiny particles. The process breaks the cell walls and causes green tea to lose freshness quickly. Long shelve life doesn't help either.

Healthy green tea compounds break down easily. This is the reason why brand manufacturers are busy adding flavours to make them taste better.
