Green tea with Fishy Odor - Safe to Drink?

by Amesha
(Tallahassee, FL)

Good day, My organic green tea sometimes has a fishy odor. What is the cause of this? Is still safe to drink? Thanks in advance!

Answer:

Amesha, I haven't had much experience with fishy green tea, so I can't comment. The only thoughts crossing my mind is that either the tea is foul, or this is a Japanese green tea, and sometimes they can taste fishy without being bad.

I will leave this post open for any other suggestions from other readers.

Hope this helps.

Julian

Green Tea W/ Fishy oder/taste

You are exactly right. Japanese green tea can have a fishy taste although this is a sign of poor logistical planning. Could have been shipped in a mixed shipping container on any vessel. Fishing is a huge industry in Japan and just about everything is touched by it. Stick with the high-end sencha's and you won't have this problem.
