How credible are pu-erh tea weight loss studies? Which tea is best for losing weight?

In recent years, many readers have asked:

"I have heard a lot about pu-erh tea as a slimming tea. Do you sell any? Where can I get some?"

And my answer has always been this:

"My dear friend, most teas do help us to lose weight. Pu-erh is just one of many. The important thing is to find a few quality teas that you will love to enjoy."

"Drinking tea will give you more energy. It also burns fat and prevents fat absorption."

"As you sip from cup to cup, your belly will flatten, and you will slim down gradually, without even realizing it."

Now, here is why.

Pu-erh Tea Weight Loss #1:
Who are the agents?

The Chinese people spends thousands of years perfecting tea. According to them, there are six types of Chinese teas:

  • Green tea
  • White tea
  • Yellow tea
  • Oolong tea
  • Red tea (Westerners call it Black tea)
  • Pu-erh tea

All six teas can help you slim down. The real question is: What do they have in common that can help you burn fat and lose weight?

Pu-erh Tea Weight Loss #2:
Catechins and Caffeine

This question has been the subject of many scientific studies, and it is well established that the most powerful tea compounds are catechins and caffeine.

Powerful antioxidants, catechins explain most of the health benefits of green tea. They can help you lose weight in various ways:

  • Increase metabolism
  • Burn fat
  • Block fat formation
  • Block fat absorption

It is well established that caffeine helps you burn more energy by increasing your metabolism.

Scientific studies have also found that caffeine and catechins act in synergy i.e. the whole is greater than the sum of parts.

Pu-erh Tea Weight Loss #3:
Which tea has the most catechins?

Green/white tea contains the highest levels of catechins, followed by oolong and pu-erh teas.

This is because oxidation reduces catechins. Green/white tea, being unoxidized, will contain the highest amount of catechins.
