Green Tea Fat Burner
Three Proven Brands Reviewed

Which green tea fat burner supplement has a proven record of reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass?

Listen carefully because this is important. The last time you bought a green tea supplement, did you read about scientific studies? When you bought the products, did you believe that green tea's weight loss effects have been validated by human trials?

If you did, you might have been scammed.

A marketing trick commonly used by internet companies is to take the positive findings reported by other scientists and disguise them as their own.

Put another way, most green tea extract supplements available nowadays have NEVER undergone any form of testing. Tea supplements are regulated by the FDA as dietary supplements and not a drugs. So companies don't need to do testing before selling their products.

Why is this important?

This is important because commercially available supplement products often contain inferior ingredients. These ingredients are the cheaper versions of those used in laboratory studies. These unproven fat burners won't give you the desired slimming results. They may even put your health at risk.

This article will introduce three green tea fat burners that have undergone some form of human trials.

Green Tea Fat Burner Review #1:
DSM Nutritional - Teavigo

DSM Nutritional's Teavigo is my preferred choice of green tea EGCG extract. Although I recommend it for other health reasons, it is not an effective green tea fat burner.

With a guaranteed minimum of 94% purity, this is the only brand that I have come across that is guaranteed to be free of caffeine, herbicide and pesticide residue.

DSM's cutting edge research and close links with the scientific community means it gets tested extensively during scientific trials. There are a number of health benefits associated with this brand.

Teavigo EGCG Extract - Best Green Tea Supplement?

However, since Teavigo contains only EGCG and is caffeine-free, it may not be such an effective fat burner.

A 2007 study conducted by Dr. Alison Hill of Queen's University in Ontario investigated if Teavigo EGCG extract can reduce abdominal fat in overweight people. 38 people took 150 milligrams capsule of EGCG twice daily for 12 weeks.

Researchers found that those taking green tea extract had a lower heart rate and blood sugar level. However, there was no evidence of fat loss. They concluded as follows:

loss of body fat ... may require a higher intake of EGCG, other catechins [tea compounds] or addition of metabolic stimulants [such as caffeine].

Therefore, scientists found no evidence that taking a decaffeinated green tea such as Teavigo may reduce belly fat. Until a better fat burner comes along, your best bet remains with naturally caffeinated green tea.

Green Tea Fat Burner Review #2:
Isatori Sport Nutrition - Lean System 7

Isatori's Lean System 7 gets high marks from my friend Paul of ultimatefatburner.com. This cutting edge green tea fat burner is worth a try, but there are risks to be aware of, and it is recommended that you use it under the supervision of a medically qualified person.

According to the Isatori's web page, Lean System 7 contains 7 ingredients: 7-Keto, yerba mate, guarana, bitter orange, green tea, dandelion root, bioperine.

This green tea fat burner is a proprietary blend, so there is no way to tell how much green tea extract each capsule contains. However, looking at the list above, green tea is fifth on the list, so it is not a lot.

By far the most important and controversial of these 7 ingredients is 7-Keto.

Now, if you were on a weight loss diet, your body would automatically burn less energy to compensate for the loss of food. You would experience an energy dip as a result of the decrease in metabolism. It would be nice if a diet supplement could help increase your energy level, even when you are eating less.

A 2005 study conducted by Minnesota Applied Research Center investigated if consuming Lean System 7 would raise the energy level for those on diets.

35 obese individuals completed the 8-week study. The scientists found that adults who took Lean System 7 experienced an increase of 7.2% in metabolism, versus a 0.7% reduction in the placebo group. Their hip size also decreased by 3.8 centimeters.

The scientists concluded:

The results of this study showed that administration of a commercial weight-loss product to overweight adults in conjunction with a calorie-restricted diet and moderate exercise program effectively reverses the decrease in [metabolism] associated with calorie restriction within this study population.

The commercial weight-loss product was well tolerated, and there were no serious adverse events over the 8 wk studied.

Now you might ask: How significant is the 8% difference?

If you burn 2,000 calories a day, this is roughly 160 calories, or 4 pounds over a 3 month period. This is not bad, considering you are also losing more weight by eating less and (hopefully) exercising!

Okay, so what's the catch with Lean System 7?

What Isotori hasn't told you is that 7-Keto is a by-product of steroid hormone DHEA, which is implicated with hormone-sensitive cancers.

Green Tea Fat Burner Review #3:
Genuine Health - Abs+

I like Genuine Health's Abs+. With just two ingredients, it is simple to understand. One soft gel contains 2,160 milligram of CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) and 340 milligrams of green tea.

Both ingredients have a proven record of reducing belly fat. Perhaps that is the reason why this supplement is called Abs+.

During a 2006 human trial conducted by the University of Toronto, participants consumed either placebo or 6 Abs+ capsules for a total daily intake of 3,400 mg CLA and 270 mg EGCG for a period of 12 weeks.

This is what the scientists found:

Body weight, waist circumference and percent body fat were measured at the end of 0, 4, 8 and 12 weeks. Changes between weeks 12 and week 0 were used to compare the effects of abs+.

Ingesting abs+ resulted in a significant body weight loss, both as group total weight and mean body-weight change, compared to the placebo treatment.

The study results show an important role for the nutritional supplement abs+ in the management of body weight.

CLA is generally a safe supplement with few side effects. For a review of CLA and what it can do for you, read CLA Supplement and Weight Loss.
