Now, doesn't it sound too good to be true? And if it is as good as what the scientists have us believed, how best to buy wulong tea online?

I will give you the answers. But first, let's begin with a fundamental question: what is it?

Wulong Tea Review Question #1:
What is it?

wulong tea reviewLet's get the facts straight: wulong tea is not some rare commodity enjoyed by a few people.

Like green tea, it is an everyday beverage widely consumed in China, Taiwan and Japan.

It has many different names: oolong tea, wu-long or wu long tea. They all refer to the same type of tea.

To understand what it is, consider the tea plant Camellia sinensis.

Green tea, wulong tea and black tea all come from the same tea plant, but are oxidised for different amounts of time.

Oxidation is a natural process where tea compounds interact with oxygen molecules they come into contact with.

The same process makes apples brown, iron rusty and copper penny green.

The tea that a Westerner drinks daily is called black tea. It is black because it has been fully oxidised.

Green tea is unoxidised.

Wulong tea can be considered a hybrid between black tea and green tea. It is partially oxidised.

Wulong Tea Review Question #2:
Does it help lose weight?

wulong tea reviewScientists have found that wulong tea helps lose weight by

  • Increasing metabolism

  • Burning fat (a process called lipolysis)

  • Blocking dietary fat absorption

So the short answer is yes.

Drinking wulong tea is an easy win. It is stimulating and refreshing with many health benefits.

When combined with a healthy diet and an exercise program, it can help you shed the pounds quickly.

Wulong Tea Review Question #3:

Wulong Tea Review Question #4:
Does wulong tea have any side effects?

Wulong tea is just another type of tea. The FDA categorized tea as "generally recognized as safe". It has few side effects.

The rewards of drinking tea is one million times more powerful. Scientists are urging us to drink more.

However, there are two things to be aware of.

First, like any other tea, a small number of first-time drinkers may experience some side effects.

Oolong Tea Side Effects

Second, like wine, there are many grades of tea. A cheap wulong tea may cost $5 per 50 grams (2 ounces). An expensive one may cost 10 times as much.

The danger is that people buy from unscrupulous tea shops that sell low quality tea.

Low quality tea is a concern because the soil and water may be contaminated by environmental pollution.

Farmers may also misuse chemicals and pesticides to boost yields.

China and Taiwan are the largest producers in the world. Both countries have high and low quality tea farms.

The key is to buy from knowledgeable tea shops, experts who know their tea farms inside-out and do not sacrifice quality for profit.

Wulong Tea Review Question #5:
How to buy wulong tea online?

All wulong teas help lose weight. Scientists have not found a "diet" cultivar. Buy a good quality tea and the rest should take care of itself.

Quality varies from shop to shop. Photos, organic certifications, even customers ratings may not mean much.

As consumers, we should do our own DIY testing. Why? Because quality follows taste.

Tea flavors do not come out of a vacuum. The best-tasting wulong tea grows slowly in high altitude, nurtured by mountain air, rich soil and clean water.

If a wulong tea tastes great and feels fantastic, then it is likely to be high quality.

Online shopping offers the widest choices these days. To find them, simply go to Google and search "oolong tea" or "Chinese tea".

There are thousands of online tea shops out there. The first 60 or so are usually reliable.

Wulong Tea Review Question #5:
Okuma Wu-Long tea

okuma wu-long tea

I am not a big fan of "diet" wulong tea. However, there are so many queries from visitors that I am tempted to buy one myself to evaluate.

When my friend Melvin asked me to review a tea that he purchased from wulongteforlife.com, I gladly obliged.

Here is the conclusion:

The product claims are slightly over-blown.

At 60 cents per teabag it is obviously pricey.

I am not a teabag drinker, so I am not a good judge. They taste okay, but it is not what I expect from a real Wuyi Oolong Tea.

In case you wonder if they are some sort of scammers, they are not. The staff is responsive and helpful. And they refund if you are not happy. This is a decent company with good service.

Wulong Tea Review Question #6:
Adagio Oolong Tea Samplers

wulong tea review

Adagio Teas is the grand-daddy of the online tea world.

Almost every tea drinker I know has ordered from them. Most stay with them for life. Some (like myself) left in search for better tea.

They are good if you are drinking loose tea for the first time and just want something cheap and simple.

Adagio Teas provide excellent service. This is a company that knows how to please their customers.

The Oolong Tea Sampler comes with 4 sample tins. It is a good way to get started.

Adagio does not give much information about their teas. You can read my introduction below.

  • Jasmine tea #5: This is a jasmine infused tea, a common Chinese restaurant tea.

  • Oolong tea #8: This is an Oriental Beauty. It is the most oxidised and exotic of oolong tea and has a flavor more akin to black tea.

  • Ti Kwan Yin: A fragrant tea plant that is also called Iron Goddess or Tieguanyin. Also check my "personal discovery" below.

  • Wuyi Ensemble: Produced at the borderland of the Wuyi Mountain, a UNESCO Heritage site that produces the world's finest wulong teas.

If you are a quality hunter with a more sophisticated palate, I recommend one of my personal discoveries.

I followed this tea garden for a long 6 months and love it.

When my discriminating reviewers say the same thing, I know I have uncovered another star, one of the best you will ever find.

It is called the "King" because it is made from the top 0.1% leaves.

These Iron Goddess tea bushes grow at an altitude of about 1,000 meters in a famous tea village that has been growing tea since 8 century A.D..

Its most amazing quality is its everlasting floral fragrance.

The highest grade can be infused 9 times and still taste floral and fruity. This is an exceptional tea with great inner beauty. Only the highest quality leaves containing the richest nutrients can withstand such stringent tests.
