Tea And White Hair - Does Tea Turn You Gray?

by Bindi Sagar

I want to know whether drinking tea can cause white hair. Some elder people are telling if you drink tea regularly you will get more white hairs. Is this true?

I know that caffeine was there and it is not good for health. I am expecting for you reply.

Answer:

Bindi, thank you for asking this very interesting question.

I have never come across any study or suggestion that drinking more tea can cause you to have more white hairs.

So this is not scientifically proven.

The Chinese and Japanese people have been drinking tea for thousands of years. As an ethnic Chinese, I have heard that drinking tea causes white hairs as well.

So this has not been observed in the Far East.

They have been some "rumours" that drinking green tea can cause baldness, but even that is based on a misunderstanding of a study.

So I think the answer to your question is a straightforward NO!

For elderly people, I highly recommend drinking tea, subject to a few conditions.

But first let me digress...

Contrary to what you think, caffeine can be beneficial to your health. Studies have shown that those people who consume a moderate amount of caffeine each day lives longer.

More importantly, they are less likely to suffer from brain diseases such as Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases.

Tea and Caffeine

Tea contains caffeine, and it also contains other more potent compounds that have similar benefits - i.e. help you live longer and keep your brain stronger.

So drinking tea is highly recommend for old people.

The disadvantages? Tea contains caffeine which may cause problems for those suffering from heart disease or blood pressure.
