Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle Review
Who Should Read It?

There are many weight loss books around, but none of them is as well researched as Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat.

I looked forward to this book with much anticipation. After all, this is the best selling fitness and diet ebook in internet history. Every webmaster is rushing to recommend it. How could I not be impressed?

That said, before I picked it up, I had my doubts. What can a bodybuilder teach me about diet and nutrition? I have already read several books by highly authoritative doctors. What else is Tom going to teach me?

I was wrong. By the time I had read past Chapter 2, I was totally blown away.

My Favorite Sections

Here are some of my personal favorites from this book that I think make Burn the Fat truly a class in its own right:

  • Understanding your body type. Why there is not a "one size fits all" diet and exercise program. Why a low fat/ high carbohydrate diet works for some people and not others.

  • Why tracking your progress is important. How to measure your body fat. How to determine your ideal body weight.

  • Why eating 6 meals a day can help you burn fat and build muscle. It may sound like hard work, but how does Tom incorporate it into his lifestyle?

  • What's a calorie? What's the best way to determine how many calories you need a day? How to adjust your calories intake according to your goal (whether you want to lose weight or gain lean muscle mass).

  • Why the zig-zig rotation method is the most effective way to lose fat without reducing your energy level.

  • Understanding the major food types. Debunking common myths about fat, carbohydrates and protein. Should you eat carbohydrates and protein separately or on their own? What's the optimal amount of each food type to eat?

What I Like

Tom Venuto is well read, and quotes from a wide range of books and studies. But this is not a book written by an armchair researcher.

This is a book written by a fitness wizard who has dabbled in the dark art of fat loss and muscle building for over 14 years. Every insight Tom Venuto shares about nutrition and exercise has been tested in his successful bodybuilding career and verified in the experiences of the 600 people he has personally trained. He knows first hand what works, and what doesn't.

This is a book of great width and depth. It reads like instructor's manual, presenting alternative view points, sharing all the tips and tricks you will ever need to achieve your goals. If there is one book you need, then this is it.

What I Don't Like

Written in 2003, Burn the Fat has 17 chapters and 300+ pages. This is not a book that you would get through in one sitting. It is an intense read. You may even be scared off half way. His method calls for real hard work and dedication.

Some readers might find that Tom Venuto has a slant towards people who want to carve out a perfect physique, rather than just lose weight. Some parts of this book may read this way, but to be fair to Tom, his method will work equally for people who want to lose fat or gain muscle.

Burn the Fat is not a shortcut. It is a tried-and-tested program that is guaranteed to bring permanent weight loss. Here is where I think it would be useful:

  • If you only have a few pounds to lose, then you can conveniently skip this book.

  • If you are serious about fat loss or muscle growth, and want to make some lifestyle changes, then you will find this book indispensable.

  • If you are confused by the myriad of diets out there, and want to debunk common myths, then this book is great for getting to the truth of the matter.

By the way, in the course of researching about weight loss, I engaged in correspondence with Tom several times and have found him to be extremely helpful.

He currently offers an 8-week unconditional 100% Money Back Guarantee and a time limited bonus worth $19.95. If you don't find his book useful in your quest for a slimmer, fitter body, you can always ask for a refund.
