Best Time For Tea?

by Aditi Arora

What are the best time to have green tea for weight loss purpose and how many times in a day should it be consumed?

Aditi, generally speaking, the best time to drink tea is in between meals.

This is because when you stomach has food, green tea can affect absorption and irritates the stomach, causing some undesirable side effects.

And according to Chinese medicine, it is not good when your stomach is empty as well.

So if you have a sensitive stomach, the best time is in between meals, 3 to 6 cups a day, or more, depending on your history (i.e. beginner should start with 1 to 3 cups, more experienced drinker can drink as much as they like).

(I start with 3 cups a week!)

If you stomach is fine, and you feel good drinking tea, that by all means drink it first thing in the morning (which is what I do) or with meals.

Drinking tea has the effect of blocking the absorption of iron, thiamine and according to Chinese research, fat and protein as well.

Drinking tea with meals can be good or bad, depending on how you feel.

If you are just starting to drink tea daily, I suggest you start with in between meals, 3 cups a day, loose green tea, then increase gradually to 6 cups a day.

With loose green tea, 3 grams of dried leaves should be able to infuse 3 times to give you your 3 cups.

Depending on how sensitive you are to caffeine, it is also a good idea to avoid drinking tea after dinner to avoid losing any sleep.

Hope this helps.

Yes you have given a perfect way of having it, between the meals, ideal would be the pre noon hours, especially the office desk jobers who need that extra kick for their long boring hours!
